Five Retrievers Earn America East Softball Preseason All-Conference Honors

BOSTON -- A league-best five members of the UMBC Softball team were named to the inaugural America East Preseason All-Conference team that was announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Ella Squaires, a first team all-conference and all-rookie selection selection in 2024, was voted one of the top three outfielders to earn the preseason honor. She is joined on the team by classmate, and fellow all-rookie honoree, Amya Lundy (3B), juniors Amaya Carroll (SS) and Emily Riggs, and senior pitcher Kya Matter, who is a three time all-conference honoree.

Riggs batted .298 in 2024 and led the team with seven homers and 36 RBI, while Carroll batted .309 with four homers, 26 RBI and 61 total bases. Lundy batted .304 with four homers and 20 RBI, while Squaires had a team-best .393 average, 30 runs scored, 19 walks and 18 stolen bases.

Matter picked up 10 wins on the season with a sensational 2.69 ERA with 146 strikeouts.

The Retrievers kick-off the 2025 season on February 14 with a tournament at East Carolina.
