Hoffman Takes Second in Pole Vault to Pace Men’s Track and Field at America East Championships

Ian Hoffman paced the Retrievers on day one of the America East Indoor Track and Field Championships with his second place finish in the pole vault. Several other Retrievers qualified for finals tomorrow as UMBC sits in fifth place after day one.

BOSTON– Ian Hoffman paced the Retrievers on day one of the America East Indoor Track and Field Championships with his second place finish in the pole vault. Several other Retrievers qualified for finals tomorrow as UMBC sits in fifth place after day one.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Hoffman earned all-conference honors and a silver medal in the pole vault after finishing second, clearing a height of 4.65m.
  • On the track, Shavar Staats was the top qualifier in the 60m, finishing in a time of 6.83. Jaeden Burke will join him in the finals of the event after finishing eighth in a time of 6.97.
  • Shamar Barnes and Taheer Pierce will compete in the 200m and 400m finals after Barnes qualified sixth in the 200m (21.81), and Pierce qualified eighth in the 400m (49.32).
  • Michael Arnold and Nicolas Alphonse went six-seven in the 500m prelims to qualify for tomorrow's finals. Arnold finished in 1:05.79 while Alphonse was .01 behind him at 1:05.80.
  • The distance medley relay team of Sam Brosh, Lamine Fofana, Mulisa Reggasa, and Cameron Hindle earned bronze with a time of 9:58.95.
  • UMass Lowell leads on the men's side after day one with Binghamton, UAlbany, and Maine just ahead of UMBC in fifth. New Hampshire, Vermont, NJIT, and Hartford round out the pack.

Day two of the championships will kick off at 10 a.m. in Boston.
