Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC track and field opens up the 2019 outdoor season at the Pepsi Florida Relays, hosted by the University of Florida this weekend. The Retrievers finished up the indoor season with the men finishing seventh and the women sixth at the America East Indoor Championships back in late May.

Last Time Out (America East Indoor Championships):
-Kaya Knake led the Retrievers at the America East Championships setting the school record in the 800m run. Knake won gold in a time of 2:07.91 while also being a part of the gold medal winning 4x800m relay team that helped the women finish sixth in the conference. Alexios Prodanas won gold in the hammer throw on day one of the championships leading the men to a seventh place finish.
-Erin Patrice earned a pair of top eight finishes, taking seventh in the 60m finals (7.76) and sixth in the 200m (25.19). Tori Johnson and Ariella Garcia earned medals in the 500m dash with Johnson taking second in 1:15.21 and Garcia placing 6th in 1:17.04.
Alexis Bartelloni and Morgan Casey also earned top finishes in the mile (11th, 5:12.80) and the 1,000m (6th, 2:57.48) respectively. Kelechi Nwanaga led the field athletes with a fifth place finish in the shot put with a toss of 13.23m.
-The men were led in the field by Divinus Muteba and Rodney Sachiti who both placed in the top ten. Muteba earned silver in the high jump with a jump of 2.04m and Sachiti taking ninth in the triple jump with a jump of 13.96m. Tony White earned a tenth place finish in the shot put with a throw of 13.61m to round out the field athletes.
-Miles Smith led the runners with a bronze medal performance in the 800m with a time of 1:52.38. Isaiah Jensen and Taylor Baranoski also turned in top finishes in the 500m dash (4th, 1:04.43) and the mile (12th, 4:16.05) respectively. The 4x800m relay team of Baranoski, Jensen, Joe Viqueira and Smith finished fifth in a time of 7:45.66.
Last Time at the Florida Relays:
-Alexios Prodanas kicked off last year's meet with a first place finish in the hammer throw, qualifying for the NCAA Prelims. Tony White finished eighth in the javelin to lead the Retreivers on day one.
-Day two of the meet saw Kelechi Nwanaga break the school record in the javelin on her first attempt, finishing the event in third place with a throw of 51.64m. Kaya Knake recorded the second fastest time in school history in the 800m run, with a time of 2:09.83. On the men's side, Nathan Nadal finished 11th in the steeplechase with his time earning him a spot in the IC4A Championships.
-The women finished off the meet with the 4x100m relay team of Collese Daley, Amani Wallace, Erin Patrice, and Kara Patrice running a time of 46.86, which qualifies them for the ECAC. The 4x800m relay team of Briana Roberts, Ariella Garcia, Bridgett Redding, and Kaya Knake ran a time of 9:02.39 to finish seventh.
For the men, in the 4x200m relay, John Oputa, Brian Nelson, Andrew Daniels, and Noel Njem ran a time 1:28.20 to finish in 15th. In the men's distance medley relay, Ifa Eado, Erik Jenks, Miles Smith, and Matthew Kane took home seventh after crossing the line in 10:09.25.
