Day One Results
Boston, Mass.-- Alexios Prodanas continued his strong indoor season by winning gold in the weight throw on day one of the America East Indoor Championships on Friday. The Retriever men are sitting in fourth after day one, while the women sit in ninth place.
Prodanas earned gold with a toss of 20.57m. Fellow countryman Manos Kamtsiklis earned fourth place in the event with a toss to 18.07m. Also in the field, Rodney Sachiti and Trenson Terry finished fourth and seventh in the long jump. Sachiti had his best jump of 6.96m while Terry finished with a jump of 6.92m.
Isaiah Jensen led the runners by qualifying for tomorrow's finals in the 500m dash. Jensen finished the prelims in fifth place with a time of 1:04.44. Matt Kingeter and Trenson Terry also has strong showings on Friday, taking 15th in the 5,000m (15:05.80) and 17th in the 60m hurdle prelims (9.16) respectively.
The distance medley team of Taylor Baranoski, Jensen, Miles Smith and Matthew Kane took fifth with a time of 9:58.20 to end the day.
UAlbany leads the men's side after day one. UMass Lowell, New Hampshire and UMBC round out the top four followed by Binghamton, Stony Brook, Maine, Vermont and Hartford.
On the women's side, Erin Patrice earned a spot in two finals on Saturday. She finished the 60m dash prelims in fourth place with a time of 7.73 and the 200m dash prelims in eighth in a time of 25.23. Tori Johnson and Ariella Garcia also qualified for the 500m dash finals. Johnson earned the top spot with a time of 1:15.60 with Garcia taking eighth in 1:16.79.
Collese Daley and Emmy Beyer also turned in top times for the runners with an 11th place finish in the 400m dash prelims (58.32) and 16th in the 5,000m (18:23.13). The distance medley team of Kaya Knake, Ryanna Kimbembe, Bridgett Redding, and Briana Roberts finished fifth in a time of 11:54.96.
Eleni Zotou led the field athletes with a 10th place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 15.00m.
The Great Danes also lead on the women's side, followed by Binghamton and UMass Lowell in the top three. Stony Brook, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Hartford and UMBC round out the field.
Day two of the finals will begin at 10 a.m. in Boston.
