Prodanas Leads Retrievers on Day One of America East Championships

Men's Results 

Durham, N.H.—Freshman Alexios Prodanas led the Retrievers on day one of the America East Track and Field Championships on Saturday. Prodanas took gold in the hammer throw, as several Retrievers earned spots in the finals tomorrow.

Prodanas took the hammer throw with a toss of 62.17m (204'). Also in the field was Christian Kallenberg who finished sixth in the javelin with a throw of 54.17m (177'9"), while also sitting in second in the decathlon. 

Jamal Cody led the hurdlers taking first in the prelims of the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.86. Teammates Andrew Daniels and Marcus Foster also qualified for the finals with times of 53.64 (third) and 54.11 (fifth) respectively. Daniels also earned a spot in the finals of the 110m hurdles in a time of 14.77, good for fourth.

In sprints, Brian Nelson earned a spot in the 100m and 200m dashes with times of 10.72 (fifth), and 21.66 (third). James Oakley III will compete in the 200m finals after finishing seventh with a time of 21.71. Erick Soetje (400m dash), John Oputa (400m dash) and Urgy Eado (800m run) will compete tomorrow. Soetje finished fifth in 48.81, while Oputa finished in seventh (49.44) and Eado fourth (1:53.85) in their respective races. 

Austin Hayslett and Elijah Hawkins had top ten finishes in the 10,000m finals with times of 31:09.51 (third) and 31:48.36 (ninth) respectively. Nathan Nadal took eighth in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:42.58. 

Defending champion Albany leads after day one, followed by New Hampshire, Vermont and Binghamton. UMass Lowell, Maine, UMBC, Stony Brook and Hartford round out the field.

Day two begins at 9 a.m. tomorrow at New Hampshire.
