Johnson Breaks School Record; UMBC Track and Field Concludes ECAC/IC4A Championships on Sunday

FULL RESULTS 

Princeton, N.J.—UMBC track and field concluded the ECAC/IC4A Championships on Sunday after rain forced the meet to modify its schedule. The Retriever women finished 24th while the men finished 19th on Sunday. Thomas Johnson broke the school record in the triple jump on the day, most likely earning him a spot in the NCAA Prelims later this month. 

Johnson finished in third in the triple jump with a jump of 15.57m (51'1"), breaking the school record. The mark broke a seven year record held by Victor Gilreath who set the mark of 15.45m (50'8.25") back in 2010. 

Jamal Cody and Erick Soetje went five-nine in the 400m dash with times of 48.38 and 48.75 respectively. Brian Nelson finished in the top twenty in a pair of events, taking 11th in the 100m dash (10.81) and 15th in the 200m dash (21.94). 

Other Retriever individual finishers included Urgy Eado in the 800m run (ninth, 1:51.56), Miles Smith in the 800m run (23rd, 1:53.13), and Marcus Foster in the 400m hurdles (15th, 54.77).

A pair of relays has top ten finishes on Sunday. The 4x400m relay team of Cody, Darrius Oxley, Foster and Soetje finished fifth in a time of 3:14.44. The 4x100m squad of Afees Abolurin, James Oakley III, Nelson and Noel Njem took ninth in a time of 42.06. 

The women saw Abigale Slonski take bronze in the javelin with a toss of 43.40m (142'5"). 

Funmi Darmola, Yinka Alabi, and Amani Wallace had top twenty finishes in individual races. Daramola took tenth in the 200m dash in a time of 24.89, while Wallace took 15th in the same event (25.31) and Alabi placed 19th in the 100m hurdles (14.64). 

Daramola and Wallace teamed up with Erin Patrice and Kara Patrice to take sixth in the 4x100m relay with a time of 46.69. Kaya Knake, Bridgett Redding, Elise Allen, and Briana Roberts closed the meet with a 12th place finish in the 4x800m relay with a time of 9:14.86.
