Scouting the Retrievers (5-2)
- UMBC won both of their contests in two trips to Philadelphia last week. The Retrievers beat Drexel, 9-7, on Wednesday, and La Salle, 19-4, on Saturday.
- Junior goalkeeper Ashley Peacock (Crofton, Md./Elizabeth Seton/Louisville) and sophomore attacker Caroline Jamison (Westminster, Md./Westminster) earned the Retrievers' first America East Conference honors of the season this past week.
- Peacock earned the Defensive Player of the Week award after helping hold Drexel scoreless in the second half of a come from behind victory for the Retrievers.
- Jamison's nine goal, four draw control performance last week earned her Offensive Player of the Week honors. The sophomore leads the conference in points per game (4.43) and shots per game (7.43).
- The Retrievers as a whole are currently leading five statistical categories in-conference: goals per game, shots and shots on goal per game, draw controls per game and turnovers per game.
- Sophomore midfielder Caitlin Miller (Fredrick, Md./Tuscarora) has continued her effectiveness at the draw that began last season. She has won a team-high 30 draw controls this season, and added five goals and four assists.
Scouting the Eagles (8-2)
- Winthrop rolled to an 8-0 start before falling to Bryant, 12-13, in overtime, and losing, 6-9, to Bryant.
- The Eagles reached the NCAA National Championship tournament last season by taking the Big South Conference title and earning an automatic qualifying big. Winthrop lost to Virginia, 18-6, in the first round.
- Sophomores Kristen Shriver (18) and Katie Clark (18), and senior Shannon Gallagher (19) are all on the verge of reaching the 20-goal plateau. The Eagles also have three other players with double-digit goals this season.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Alaina Girani sits just one spot above Peacock in the national rankings for saves per game. Girani is 34th with 7.33 saves per game, while Peacock is 35th with 7.29. The Eagles' goalkeeper is sixth in the nation with a save percentage of .541.
