Five UMBC Records, Four Wins Highlight Final Day of AEC's as Track and Field Finishes Fourth and Fifth

DURHAM, N.H.-- The UMBC men's and women's track and field teams broke five school records and finished fourth and fifth, respectively, as the 2010 America East Outdoor Championships concluded Sunday in Durham, N.H.

The men finished with 120.5 points behind Albany (190), Binghamton (139) and New Hampshire (127). Maine (92.5), Boston University (89), Vermont (44), Stony Brook (32) and Hartford (22) rounded out the field.

Albany completed the sweep on the women's side with 197.5 points, followed by Maine (172), New Hampshire (133), Boston University (101.5), UMBC (68), Vermont (59), Binghamton (55), Stony Brook (49) and Hartford (19).

Senior Victor Gilreath (Catonsville, Md./Western Tech/Maryland) was named the Most Outstanding Male Field Performer after breaking the school and 19-year old America East Championship record in the triple jump with a leap of 15.45m. Fellow senior Brian Pendleton (Aberdeen, Md./Harford Tech) earned bronze in the same event, hitting a mark of 14.82m.

On the men's side, junior Keith Onto (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro/St. Francis (PA)) broke the America East Championship record, UMBC record and is now ranked in the Top-25 in the country after finishing with 7,239 points.

In the 110-meter hurdles, senior Camal Pugh (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) earned gold in an IC4A time of 14.70.

Senior Michael Christmas (Invercargill, New Zealand/James Hargest College) broke the school mark in the 800-meter run, finishing third in an IC4A-qualifying time of 1:51.34.

The 4x100m relay team of seniors Justin Acker (Bowie, Md./Bowie/Salisbury), Adrian Arthur (Bowie, Md./Bowie), Jason Powell (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) and Antonio Thomas (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) finished second in an IC4A-qualifying time of 41.657, just three one-thousandths of a second by Albany.

Thomas won two additional silvers in the 100-meter dash (11.01) and the 200-meter dash (21.81), while Arthur and Acker finished third and sixth in the 100, respectively.

Sophomore Aaron Brooks (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dematha) claimed bronze in the discus throw with a heave of 45.47m and fifth in the shot put with a throw of 15.08m.

On the women's side, freshman Amanda Deller (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) won the shot put with a throw of 14.37m and earned silver in the discus throw with a heave of 41.74m. Junior Chrissy Robinson (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) took third in the shot put with a throw of 13.15m.

The 4x100m relay team of junior Nicole Smalls (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert/Morgan State), freshman Ashley Ajayi (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton), sophomore Imani Colbert (Upper Marlboro, Md./C.H. Flowers) and seniorBritney Foreman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) broke the UMBC record and finished fourth in an ECAC- qualifying time of 47.18.

Freshman Chowan Brightful (New Market, Md./Linganore) took sixth in the heptathlon with a school record 4,299 points. She placed first in the 100-meter hurdles portion in 14.66.

Foreman finished fourth in the 100-meter dash, while Colbert placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles.

Senior Sara Parkinson (Chorley, England/Loughborough University) earned bronze in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:33.37.

The Retrievers return to action May 14-16 for the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Princeton, N.J.
