Hewitson Breaks School Record in 500-Meter Dash at Day 1 of IC4A/ECAC Championships Saturday

BOSTON-- Sophomore Joshua Hewitson (New Market, Md./Linganore) broke his own school record in the men's 500-meter dash and qualified for the finals as the UMBC men's and women's track and field teams finished Day 1 of the IC4A and ECAC Championships in Boston Saturday.

Hewitson finished in a time of 1:03.50, besting his previous record by 27 one-hundredths of a second set at the America East Championships two weeks ago.

Senior Camal Pugh (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) qualified for the finals of the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 7.70, while on the women's side, sophomore Imani Colbert (Upper Marlboro, Md./C.H. Flowers) made it to the semis in the 60-meter hurdles and finished 16th in 8.88.

Senior Britney Foreman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) made her way into the semifinals of the 60-meter dash and finished ninth in 7.72. Freshman Amanda Deller (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 14.01m.

In the first day of the men's heptathlon, junior Keith Onto (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro/St. Francis (PA)) is in sixth position with 2,777 points, while senior Michael Buccheri (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan/Monmouth) is seventh with 2,732 and fellow senior Dominic Devaud (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) is 10th with 2,686 points.

The IC4A and ECAC Championships conclude Sunday in Boston.
