Women's Cross Country Finishes Eighth at America East Championships, Men Fifth

BOSTON, Mass.—The UMBC men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 2010 America East Championships Saturday, with the men's squad finishing fifth with 161 points and the women's team placing eighth with 231 points.


On the women's side, senior Sara Parkinson (Lancashire, England/Loughborough University) placed 22nd in a 5K time of 18:27.12, while junior Keri Wilson (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) crossed the line 44th in a career-best time of 19:06.47.


Senior Cortney Crouse (Union Bridge, Md./Linganore) broke the 20-minute mark for the first time in her career, placing 65th in 19:56.86, while sophomore Laura Blevins (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) finished 74th and freshman Cody Mezebish (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) rounded out the scoring five in 75th in a season-best time of 20:29.76.


On the men's side, senior Chris Bowie (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) paced the Retrievers, finishing 26th overall in a career-best 8K time of 25:25.75, while junior transferSam Boimov (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg/Salisbury) finished 29th in 25:30.36.


Rounding out the scoring five were Brandan McGee (Hiram, Ohio/Crestwood), who finished 31st, junior Roy Jones (New Market, Md./Linganore), who placed 42nd and freshman Nic Escobar (Derwood, Md./Magruder) who finished right behind Jones in 43rd.


Stony Brook's Lucy Van Dalen won the women's individual race in 16:48.22, while the Seawolves won the team crown with 24 points. New Hampshire was second with 63 points and was followed by Maine (97), Boston U. (104), Albany (109), Vermont (121), Binghamton (183), UMBC (231) and Hartford (277.)


On the men's side, Riley Masters of Maine won the individual championship in 24:04.47, while Boston University took the conference crown with 45 points. Binghamton was second with 54 points and were followed by Albany (60), Maine (118), UMBC (161), Stony Brook (170), Vermont (186), Hartford (192) and New Hampshire (229).
