BALTIMORE – UMBC Volleyball Head Coach Ian Blanchard has named senior outside hitter Hannah Schmidt (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sale) and junior setter Paige Miller (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) team captains for the 2014 season.
"One of the most important goals of this program is to help facilitate the development of self-sufficient, independent, young women," said Blanchard. "This may be the most important skill all members of the team develop. Hannah and Paige have both demonstrated the ability to think independently and they are excellent representatives of the entire team's interest. They have a very good understanding of what it is we are trying to accomplish, and both have grown immensely in their time with the team."
Schmidt is coming off a season in which she was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team, the All-Tournament Team and the All-Academic Team. The former America East All-Rookie Team member, ranked second on the team last season in kills (302) and blocks (84), and had a .251 attack percentage.
Miller appeared in 11 matches and 28 total sets during her sophomore campaign. As a rookie, she started 12 matches and averaged 9.78 assists per set on the season.
