Track and Field Continues Season at ECAC/IC4A Championships This Weekend

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC track and field continues their outdoor season at the ECAC/IC4A Championships this weekend in Princeton. The Retriever are coming off a second and seventh place finish (men-women) at the America East Outdoor Championships last weekend.

Last Time Out (America East Championships):

The UMBC men finished second at the championships, just behind Albany who repeated as America East champions. Albany won their eighth straight title, edging out the Retrievers and New Hampshire. UMass Lowell, Binghamton, Stony Brook, Vermont, Maine and Hartford rounded out the field. 

Freshman Alexios Prodanas finished his torrid weekend by earing Most Outstanding Field Performer and Most Outstanding Rookie honors. Head coach David Bobb and staff were named Coach Staff of the Year after leading UMBC to a second place finish.

Alexios Prodanas (hammer throw), Jamal Cody (400m hurdles), 4x400m relay (Darrius Oxley, Erick Soetje, Jamal Cody, Drew Daniels) and the 4x100m relay (Afees Abolurin, James Oakley III, Brian Nelson, Noel Njem) all won gold at the meet.

The women finished in seventh place, as Albany once again repeated as champions. Albany won their eighth straight title, edging out New Hampshire and Stony Brook. UMass Lowell, Binghamton, Vermont, UMBC, Maine and Hartford rounded out the field.

The Retrievers will wait to see if anyone has qualified for the NCAA Prelims on May 25-27, with the announcement of those who qualified coming on May 18.
