  • Women’s Team; Omar and Fogle Honored as USTFCCCA All-Academic Selections

    A pair of UMBC track and field athletes, as well as the women’s team were honored by the USTFCCCA (United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches’ Association) for their outstanding work on the track and in the classroom, the association announced on Monday.

    Retriever fans, the 2014-15 season in the America East has come to an end and for the first time ever, we want YOU to pick the best Male & Female Athlete of the Year. The nominees were chosen by taking the Player of the Year from each of the 18 America East sports resulting in seven male nominees and 11 female nominees.   • UMBC Opens NCAA Preliminaries on Thursday in Jacksonville

    UMBC senior Paulette Fogle completed her collegiate career on Thursday in the 400m hurdles. Fogle finished 29th overall and fourth in her heat in the event.
  • Four Retrievers Earn Spots in 2015 NCAA East Preliminaries

    Four UMBC track and field athletes earned spots in the 2015 NCAA East Preliminaries in Jacksonville, Fla. as announced by the NCAA office. Seniors Mercedes Jackson (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) and Paulette Fogle (Washington, D.C./Bishop McNamara) on the women’s side, and juniors Vincent Rentzsch (Oranienburg, Germany/Elite Sportschule Potsdam) and Hassan Omar (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) on the men’s side earned spots. The preliminaries will be held on May 28-30 at University of North Florida in Jacksonville.

    A pair of UMBC track and field student-athletes earned America East All-Academic honors, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Sophomore Sophia Cologer and senior Paulette Fogle earned the award following their strong performances in the classroom and on the track.

    UMBC track and field will head to New Jersey for the ECAC/IC4A Championships this weekend. Mercedes Jackson and Hassan Omar took home Most Outstanding Track Performers at the America East Championships two weeks back. Junior Daryian Miles won the Elite 18 Award at the meet, as the Retriever men and women finished in second place, their best finish in program history.

    The UMBC track and field team concluded the America East Championships on Sunday in Albany. Both the men and the women finished in second place, their best finishes at the meet in program history.
