Baltimore, Md. – The UMBC women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision against Xavier at the UMBC Tennis Complex, the Retrievers' first match played in over two weeks. The Retrievers record is 6-8 for the season, while Xavier improves to 14-5.
Women's Tennis Drops Decision to Strong Xavier Side
The Retrievers fought hard, and four players extended their opponents. In her first action of the spring, sophomore Shannon Cleary (Little Bay, NSW, Australia /Randwick) stormed back at the six position after a difficult first set to force a tiebreaker, but she fell 6-0,7-6 (6). Her classmate Madlena Kurasz (Zlotoryja, Poland / John Paul II Secondary School) lost a heartbreaker at the two spot, 7-5, 7-5. Freshman Mariami Dolashvili (Alushta, Ukraine) took her first set, 6-4, at the No. 3 position, but fell, 4-6, 6-0, 6-1.
The Retrievers will return to action for their final home match of the season against Georgetown, on Wednesday April 9, at 2:00PM.
