Women's Tennis Drops 6-1 Decision to GW
BALTIMORE – The UMBC women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to George Washington University at 40 West Racquet Club on Sunday evening, February 16.
The Retrievers' No. 3 doubles tandem of senior Kim Berghaus (Offenbach, Germany) and sophomore Madlena Kurasz (Zlotoryja, Poland) defeated the GW duo of Allison Hansen and Leah Pascarella, 8-5. But the Colonials took the Nos. 1 and 2 matches to earn the doubles point.
UMBC freshman Mariami Dolashvili (Alushta, Ukraine) recorded the Retrievers' triumph in singles competition, as she defeated Hansen, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 3 position. Kurasz split sets with Taylor Nedelander at No. 5 singles, but dropped the deciding tie-breaker to fall, 6-1, 2-6, 10-6.
The Retrievers' record now stands at 2-4 on the campaign, while GW posted its first victory after three losses.
UMBC travels to Norfolk, Va. to take on Old Dominion on Friday, Feb. 21.
