CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Patty Hallberg (Severna Park, Md./Broadneck), as well as sophomores Corinna Darelius (Rye, N.Y./Rye) and Catherine Frediani (Ellicott City, Md./Howard), have been named to the 2014 America East Women's Swimming and Diving All-Academic Team, the conference office announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Hallberg leads the trio after receiving a spot on the All-Academic squad for the second consecutive season.  The senior has accumulated a 3.86 grade-point-average (GPA) during her time at UMBC while working towards a degree in psychology and also earning a minor in biological sciences.  Hallberg has been selected to the President's List three times in her career for earning a perfect 4.0 semester GPA, while also receiving a spot on the Dean's List twice, and garnering semester academic Honors once.  She is also an active member in The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

In the pool, Hallberg helped lead UMBC to a second-place finish at the 2014 America East Championships where she recorded season-best times in each of her events.  The senior reached the finals in the 400 IM, where she finished in fifth.

Darelius earns her first spot on the All-Academic Team after excelling in the classroom and on the diving boards.  The sophomore swept the two diving competitions at the conference championships meet and was named the America East's Most Outstanding Diver.  In addition, she was named the conference Diver of the Week three times this season.  Darelius also qualified for the NCAA Zones Diving meet for the second straight year, advancing to the finals of the 3-meter event as a sophomore.

In her studies, Darelius has been equally successful, compiling a 3.49 GPA while studying for a degree in engineering.  She earned semester academic honors in each of her first two terms at UMBC.

Frediani receives her first all-academic award after a positive first two years in Baltimore.  In the classroom, the sophomore has accumulated a 3.85 GPA in general studies, earning a spot on the Dean's List in her first semester as a Retriever (Fall 2012).  She then received a spot on the President's List in Spring 2013 for a perfect 4.0 semester GPA.    Frediani was named the America East Swimmer of the Week on Jan. 14 after sweeping the 100- and 200-yd. freestyle events against Howard for her first-ever conference award.  At the conference championships, she placed 11th in the 200 free, 12th in the 200 fly, and 13th in the 200 IM.
