Women's Lacrosse Closes Road Stretch on Saturday at George Washington

After a 10-8 win over American on Wednesday afternoon, the UMBC women's lacrosse team will close out a three-game road stretch with a trip to George Washington on Saturday, Feb. 25. The game between the Retrievers and the Colonials is set to begin at 1 p.m. from the Mount Vernon Complex in Washington, D.C.

Scouting the Retrievers: (2-1)
-UMBC is on a two game winning streak after defeating American, 10-8, on Wednesday afternoon. After the Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the game, the Retrievers battled through the first half to tie things up at 4-4. The second half became a back-and-forth battle for the lead but UMBC would end the game on a four-goal run to hold on for the victory

-Senior Sam Nolan recorded a hat trick and added two assists, while sophomores Lauren McDonald scored twice and classmate Brittany Levine netted the final goal of the game. Sophomore Sara Moeller picked up two more assists in the game while adding a goal.

-In the net, senior Ashley Peacock played all 60 minutes and made eight saves on 16 shots faced.

-On the season, Moeller leads the team with 17 points off 11 assists and six goals, followed by Nolan with 15 (10g, 5a). Nolan and junior Caitlin Miller lead the team in draw controls at 13 apiece and junior Sarah Turco has forced a team-high six turnovers.

-Among America East players, Moeller ranks third in points (5.67) and is tied for second in assist per game (3.67), while Nolan ranks fourth in points per game (5.00).

Scouting the Colonials: (0-3)
-George Washington enters the weekend after losing its first three games of the season. In their season opener, the Colonials were narrowly edged out, 16-15, by Monmouth as the Hawks scored the winning goal with four seconds left.

-Most recently, GW fell, 11-9, to Longwood on Saturday, Feb. 18. The Colonials outshot the Lancers, 34-20, and held a 9-8 advantage towards the end of the game after going on a 4-0 run, but Longwood would fight back and score three more goals for the victory.

-The Colonials are led by Jocelyn Donohue (7g, 2a) and Michela Lynch (5g, 4a). Goalkeeper Adele Wise has started all three games in between the pipes for George Washington, making 28 saves.  

Series History:
UMBC and George Washington are meeting for just the second time ever. Last season, the Retrievers posted a 13-3 victory over the Colonials on Feb. 27. Carolyn Jamison, Sam Nolan, and Caroline Haggerty each recorded a hat trick in the win.
