UMBC Women’s Lacrosse Falls to No. 6/5 Stony Brook in America East Semifinals, 16-5
UMBC women’s lacrosse freshman Caitlin Miller (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) matched the Retrievers’ single-season record in draw controls, pulling in four in Friday’s America East Championships semifinal contest against No. 6/5 Stony Brook to bring her year-long total to 78 draws. The Retrievers trailed by one goal at the break, but SBU outscored UMBC 12-2 in the second half en route to the 16-5 victory at LaValle Stadium.

UMBC women’s lacrosse had three players earn conference honors at the America East’s annual awards banquet on Thursday evening. Senior Abby Wilson (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) highlighted the Retrievers’ honors by being recognized on the America East All-Conference Second Team.

UMBC Women’s Lacrosse Falls to No. 19 Albany in Regular-Season Finale
UMBC women’s lacrosse’s sophomore Jennie Milligan (Crofton, Md./South River) scored two of the Retrievers’ five goals in America East action in Saturday afternoon’s regular-season finale at John Fallon Field, but No. 19 Albany outscored UMBC 13-2 in the opening half en route to a 20-5 victory.

UMBC women’s lacrosse freshman Carolyn Jamison (Westminster, Md./Westminster), the reigning America East Rookie of the Week, registered two goals in Tuesday afternoon’s non-conference matchup at UMBC Stadium against local-rival Towson, but the Retrievers were unable to overcome a slow start, falling to the Tigers, 11-6.

The UMBC Women’s Lacrosse team used 12 saves from freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Major (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) and ended the game on a 7-0 run to defeat New Hampshire 15-6 for first victory in New Hampshire in program history.

UMBC Athletics Director Appoints Amy Slade Head Coach of Women's Lacrosse Team; Tony Giro, Former Co-Head Coach, No Longer With Program
UMBC Athletics Director Tim Hall has appointed Amy Slade as head coach of the UMBC women’s lacrosse program as of March 17. Tony Giro, who had shared co-head coaching responsibilities with Slade, is now on leave from the university to allow the Retrievers to focus on their upcoming conference season.

UMBC women’s lacrosse’s freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Major (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) registered the most stops for a Retriever goalkeeper in over 10 seasons, stopping 17 shots, but it was not enough to silence No. 1 Maryland as the Terrapins defeated the Retrievers, 14-7, in non-conference action on Wednesday night at the Maryland Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.

UMBC women’s lacrosse used a 7-2 first-half to earn its second straight victory and even its season-record to 2-2 on the year with a 9-5 win against American in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Jacobs Field. The Retrievers were led by a game-high six points, on four goals and two assists, from senior attacker Abby Wilson (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) and received 12 stops from rookie goalkeeper Kelsey Major (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), the most saves in a game for a Retriever player since April 4, 2009.

UMBC Women’s Lacrosse Co-Head Coach Amy (Appelt) Slade will represent the Retrievers in a pair of US Lacrosse events over the next few weeks. Slade is scheduled to present at the US Lacrosse Convention on Saturday, Jan. 24 in Baltimore. Just a few weeks later, Slade will be inducted into the Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame.
