UMBC Women’s Basketball Hosts Hofstra for Sunday Matinee

Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC women's basketball welcomes Hofstra to the UMBC Event Center on Sunday afternoon, coming on the heels of a 65-52 loss to Mount St. Mary's on Thursday night. Junior guard Dominika Skrocka led the Retrievers with 12 points with sophomore Janee'a Summers (Bound Brook, N.J.) adding 10 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the year.

Scouting the Retrievers:

-UMBC comes into the contest on a four-game losing streak, most recently falling to Mount St. Mary's 65-52 on Thursday night. The Mountaineers got out to an early lead and never looked back. The Retrievers tried to mount a comeback late, but the Mount held on for the win.

-Janee'a Summers leads the Retrievers offensively averaging 12.9 ppg with a team best 6.6 rpg. Skrocka and Te'yJah Oliver (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) are each averaging over 9.0 ppg at 9.8 and 9.0 respectively. Skrocka is shooting 44 percent from the floor and 48 percent from three.

Scouting the Pride:

-Hofstra comes into the contest at 3-6 on the year, having lost their last two contests against Sacred Heart and Holy Cross. The Pride have played one America East foe this year against Stony Brook, dropping a 77-49 decision in early November.

-Boogie Brozoski leads the Pride averaging 15.0 ppg. Sica Cuzic is also in double figures at 13.1 ppg to go along with a team best 7.4 rpg. The Pride are shooting 38.3 percent from the field, averaging 61.9 ppg while giving up 67.3 ppg.

All-Time Series:

-This will be the eighth time the two sides will meet, with the Retrievers holding a slim 4-3 lead all-time. The Pride have won the last two meetings, including a 71-55 win last year on Long Island. UMBC is 2-2 all-time in games played in Baltimore.

-Last year, Hofstra defeated UMBC 71-55 up on Long Island. Te'yJah Oliver led the way with 17 points off the bench with Janee'a Summers recording her first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Conference Honors:

-Redshirt freshman O'lesheya Braxton was named America East Rookie of the Week on Nov. 26 for her efforts in the loss against Towson. Braxton had career highs in points (15), rebounds (10) and assists (5) for her first career double-double.

-Braxton joins Janee'a Summers and Paula Rubio (Madrid, Spain) who earned America East Player and Rookie of the Week awards earlier in the season.

Amongst the Nations Best:

-Dominika Skrocka ranks amongst the best in the country from beyond the arc. She is ranked fifth nationally in three point field goals made with 32. She is also ranked 32nd in three point attempts, 31st in three point percentage, and 25th in three point field goals per game.

-The Retrievers will have off for final exams before returning the to hardwood against Morgan State on December 20. Tip-off with the Bears is set for 5:30 p.m.
