UMBC Women’s Basketball Picked Eighth in #AEHoops Preseason Poll

Boston, Mass.-- UMBC women's basketball was picked to finish eighth in the annual coaches preseason poll, the America East announced Thursday morning. The Retrievers will be competing in their 32nd season of Division I and 15th in the America East in 2018-19.

Defending champion Maine was unanimously chosen as the preseason favorite, garnering eight of the nine first place votes (64 points) as teams are not allowed to vote for themselves. Last year's runner up Hartford was picked second with one first place vote and 53 points, tied with Stony Brook. Albany was picked fourth with 39 points, followed by Binghamton and Vermont with 34 and 28 points in fifth and sixth.

New Hampshire (25 pts), UMBC (19 pts) and UMass Lowell (9 pts) rounded out the nine team field.

UMBC opens the season against Gettysburg on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at the UMBC Event Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN3 or ESPN+.
