Stern Adds Four to Class of 2022 Recruiting Class

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC women's basketball head coach Phil Stern announced the signing of four players to this year's recruiting class on Thursday. Stern already as Tania Hill and Kayla Jackson on the roster, who signed during the November signing period.

UMBC will graduate five players this spring and will return seven players from this year's team with no seniors, three juniors, three sophomores and one redshirt freshman on the roster next season.

"We are excited to add these four talented young ladies to our program. They will not only help us on the court but will enhance our program in the classroom and the community as well," Stern said of the four newcomers.

Silvia Ferreiros
5-7 Guard
Lugo, Spain/Colegio San Josè

Background:
Named to Ideal Quintet in 2014 and 2016… Helped her team with the Galician Cup and earn a spot in the Spanish Championship two years ago, finishing sixth in Spain winning the Galician Cup last year.

Stern on Ferreiros:
"Silvia will help bolster our backcourt being able to play both point guard and shooting guard. She has played at a very high level in Spain and will bring experience to our team."

 

Eryn Fisher
6-0 Forward
Kingsley, Australia/Woodvale Secondary College

Background:
Named U16 West Australian Basketball League MVP as well as Female West Australian Basketball League Player of the Year in 2016 and MVP at Woodvale Secondary College… Nominated for Player of the Day at the 2016 Australian Junior Championships scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds against Queensland North.

Stern on Fisher:
"Eryn is a strong young lady who is able to score both inside and out. She fits our system well, being a post player who is a strong passer out of the post."

 

Paula Rubio
5-10 Guard
Madrid, Spain/Colegio Sagrada Familia

Background:
Helped her team place third at the national championships… Played club ball for Estudiantes and Real Canoe.

Stern on Rubio:
"Paula is a versatile wing who can score in a variety of ways."

 

Sariah Penese
5-7 Guard
Wellington, New Zealand/St. Mary's Girl's Catholic College

Background:
Was the captain of the 2017 St. Mary's Girl's College New Zealand National Championship team… Named to New Zealand WBC All Star 5 Tournament Team… Name school MVP three times as well as Wellington College Sport "Basketball Female of the Year" in 2016… Scored 22 points with nine rebounds in the semifinals of the high school national tournament to advance to the finals.

"Sariah is a leader both on and off the court. She will help us on both the offensive and defensive ends."
