Summers Named to America East All-Rookie Team

Portland, Maine—UMBC women's basketball freshman Janee'a Summers (Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook) was named to the America East All-Rookie team, as announced at the America East Tournament banquet on Friday night. Summers was the lone Retriever to make an all-conference team.

Summers joined Dor Saar (Maine), Jade Young (Hartford), Paula Lopez (UMass Lowell), and McKenzie Bushee (Stony Brook) on the All-Rookie Team. Summers averaged 6.5 ppg and 5.4 rpg during the season and 5.5 ppg and 4.5 rpg during conference play. Summers recorded three double-doubles during the season against Hofstra, Towson and Albany.

Imani Watkins was named Player of the Year, while teammate Alyssa James earned Defensive Player of the Year honors for the third year. Maine swept the remaining individual honors with Parise Rossignol (Sixth Player of the Year), Dor Saar (Rookie of the Year) and Amy Vachon (Coach of the Year) earning awards.

UMBC will face No. 1 Maine on Saturday at noon from the Cross Insurance Arena.
