BALTIMORE – UMBC women's basketball reported for summer classes in July and on top of completing work in the classroom and on the court, the Retrievers were able to take some time to be active in the local community with trips to My Sister's Place throughout the month.
The Retrievers helped with food preparation, serving, and dish cleaning for breakfast, while also adding in a little time to mingle at My Sister's Place, a center for women in Baltimore that provides three meals a day and access to services such as case management, education and job training. The black and gold went on three Wednesday mornings during July and August and plan to return during the fall semester.
"Volunteering teaches compassion and understanding among many other things," said director of women's basketball operations Chelsea Barker. "Giving back has always been an important staple in Coach Stern's program and it's amazing to witness how beneficial it is for everyone involved."
