UMBC women’s basketball concludes its five-game home stand on Tuesday, Nov. 25 when it hosts Towson in game one of a UMBC basketball doubleheader. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the RAC Arena, followed by the Retriever men’s team taking on Howard in the nightcap. Women’s Basketball Halted By Robert Morris, 84-60
UMBC women’s basketball’s sophomore guard Emily Russo (Woodbine, Glenelg) registered a career-high 14 points, while junior guard Capree Garner (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) totaled a game-high 23 points, but it was not enough to overcome a big second half for Robert Morris as the Retrievers suffered their first loss of the season, 84-60, in Sunday afternoon’s non-conference matchup at the RAC Arena.

Women’s Basketball Uses Balanced Attack to Defeat Local-Rival Loyola, 81-58
UMBC women’s basketball registered its second straight game with 80-plus points, including 48 points coming in the paint, to pick up its second victory of the weekend. The Retrievers were led by a game-high 21 points from junior guard Capree Garner en route to an 81-58 victory against local-rival Loyola on Sunday evening at the RAC Arena.

Five Double-Digit Scorers Pace Women’s Basketball to 93-68 Victory Against Eastern
The UMBC women’s basketball team used five double-digit scorers to post its highest point total since Nov. 2009 in a 93-68 victory against the Eastern Eagles on Friday’s season-opener at the RAC Arena. Junior guard Capree Garner paced the Retrievers with a game-high 16 points, to go with six assists and three steals in her first contest with the black and gold.

UMBC women’s basketball returned to its active fall community service schedule, as the team participated in Maryland’s Race for the Cure with a 5K walk. The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Series is the world’s largest and most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer ever created.

UMBC women’s basketball has been picked to finish sixth in the America East’s annual coaches’ preseason poll, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. Voting was conducted by the conference’s nine head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own teams.
