The 13th Annual UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational Cancelled
For the second straight weekend, UMBC will have to cancel its home tournament due to inclement weather in the Baltimore area that will make UMBC Softball Stadium unplayable. The 13th annual UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational was originally scheduled to take place on the campus of UMBC from Friday, March 6 through Sunday, March 8.

Softball’s Alexander Named America East Co-Player and Co-Rookie of the Week
UMBC softball’s Tori Alexander (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge Senior) garnered a pair of awards after helping the Retrievers to a 2-0 weekend, earning America East Co-Player and Co-Rookie of the Week honors, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

UMBC Softball Gets Rained Out of Sunday
UMBC softball was unable to get in its final two games of its trip to Georgia, as rain cancelled UMBC’s Sunday matchups against Morehead State and East Tennessee State.

UMBC Softball Sweeps A Pair of Games on Saturday
After not playing for two consecutive weekends, UMBC softball’s bats went nuts, scoring 19 runs on 17 hits en route to the Retrievers sweeping a pair of contests in non-conference action in Savannah, Ga., at Allen Paulsen Sports Complex. UMBC coasted to a 12-2 victory in five innings against Morehead State in game one, and came back in dramatic fashion to defeat East Tennessee State, 7-5, on a walk-off home run from senior Taylor Hall (Cosby, Va./Cosby).

Weather Forces UMBC Softball into Further Schedule Changes
The UMBC softball team has cancelled its doubleheader against North Carolina Central that was scheduled for Sunday, March 1, due to expected weather in the Durham, N.C. area. The Retrievers have also postponed their Tuesday, March 3 matchup against Morgan State due to field conditions at the UMBC Softball Stadium.

Softball Schedule Updates
The UMBC softball team has added four games to its 2015 schedule and has set a reschedule date for its Feb. 24 postponed contest against Mount St. Mary’s.

The 11th Annual UMBC Retriever Classic Cancelled for Softball
For the first time in 11 tries, the annual UMBC Retriever Classic has been cancelled. Due to recent weather in the Baltimore area, the UMBC Softball Stadium will be unplayable for the tournament, which was scheduled to take place Friday, Feb. 27 through Sunday, March 1.

Softball’s Home Opener Versus Mount St. Mary’s Postponed
UMBC softball was set to host Mount St. Mary’s in the Retrievers’ home opener on Tuesday, Feb. 24, but the game has been postponed due to weather.

Softball’s Games at Elon Phoenix Opening Tournament Get Cancelled
UMBC softball was slated to return to action in a four-game trip at the Elon Phoenix Opening Tournament on Feb. 20-21, with matchups against Youngstown State (DH), La Salle and the host Phoenix, but due to weather, the tournament has been cancelled.

Softball Strands Too Many Runners on Base on Final Day of UNC Wilmington Invitational
UMBC softball’s senior Taylor Hall (Cosby, Va./Cosby) went three-for-five from the dish with two runs batted in and two walks in day two of the UNC Wilmington Landfall Park Hampton Inn & Suites Invitational, but the Retrievers were unable to get the timely hits on Saturday afternoon as UMBC left 18 runners on base in a pair of losses at Boseman Field. The Retrievers missed their chance to avenge yesterday’s loss against Saint Joseph’s, falling in game one, 8-4, followed by a 4-2 defeat versus the host Seahawks in game two.

UMBC Softball Drops a Pair in Day One of UNC Wilmington Landfall Park Hampton Inn & Suites Invitational
UMBC softball’s freshman Toni Santonastasso (Galena, Ohio/Pope John XXIII Regional) drilled her first collegiate home run and finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate, but the Retrievers dropped both of their games on the opening day of the UNC Wilmington Landfall Park Hampton Inn & Suites Invitational. UMBC was edged out in a 3-0 loss to Georgetown in its opener and followed with a 13-2 loss in six innings versus Saint Joseph’s in the second game at Boseman Field.

Softball Travels to UNC Wilmington Landfall Park Hampton Inn & Suites Invitational
UMBC softball jumps back into action over the weekend when it travels to the UNC Wilmington Landfall Park Hampton Inn & Suites Invitational. The Retrievers open action with a pair of games on Friday, Feb. 13, followed by a pair of games on Saturday, Feb. 14. Sunday’s 12:30 p.m. game against the host Seahawks has been cancelled due to expected weather.

Softball Has High Aspirations for 2015; Retrievers Open vs. SIU in Charleston on Friday
After combining for two conference wins in the previous two seasons, UMBC softball set out to prove something in 2014, by posting its highest win total since 2009 (31-22) and registering a 20-win improvement from 2013. The 2015 Retrievers open play against Southern Illinois at the Charleston Southern Tournament on Friday at noon in Charleston, S.C.

UMBC Softball’s Melanie Denischuk to be Inducted into UMBC Athletics Hall of Fame
BALTIMORE– UMBC softball’s Melanie Denischuk (2005-07) has been named as one of six former Retriever student-athletes that will be inducted into the UMBC Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, Jan. 31. A dinner and subsequent ceremony will take place, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Westin BWI Airport Hotel.

UMBC softball has announced that it will host its annual winter clinic on Saturday, Jan. 31, running from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the UMBC RAC Field House.

UMBC Softball Head Coach Joe French received recognition at the annual National Fastpitch Coaches Association after earning his 600th-career victory as a head softball coach during the 2014 campaign.

UMBC Softball Head Coach Joe French has signed six players to National Letters of Intent to join the Retrievers for the 2016 season.

Softball Announces Challenging 2015 Schedule
UMBC Softball Head Coach Joe French released the Retrievers’ 2015 schedule, which features six straight tournaments to open the season, which is slated to start on Feb. 6. UMBC will go back to hosting its three annual tournaments, beginning with the 11th Annual UMBC Retriever Classic on Feb. 27-March 1.

UMBC Softball Head Coach Joe French is now accepting applications for the sixth-annual UMBC Scholastic Classic. The first ten teams entered and paid in full will be admitted to participate in this tournament that is open to all 16-U and 18-U travel softball teams.
