CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC softball's sophomore Danielle O'Neill (Lothian, Md./Southern) earned her first career America East Player of the Week honor, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
O'Neill batted a team-best .625 in a 2-2 week for the Retrievers and posted a 1.375 slugging percentage. The sophomore utility player is riding a six-game hit streak and has launched four home runs in the last six games.
O'Neill drove in four runs in the Retrievers' four games and posted a .769 on-base percentage, with five walks on the week, moving her into a tie for sixth with Kristie Pickeral (2005) on UMBC's single-season walks list (30).
The Lothian, Md., native helped the Retrievers to claim its first America East series of the season, launching a two-run home run in the series finale, a 7-6 victory against Maine.
The Retrievers return to action on Friday, April 18 when they open a three-game series against conference-newcomer UMass Lowell.
