Hall and Holte Help UMBC Softball Sweep Weekly Awards
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC softball's junior Taylor Hall (Cosby, Va.) and freshman Jessica Holte (Ashland, Va./Atlee) helped guide the Retrievers to a 3-1 week and a sweeping of the America East Weekly honors, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Hall earned her second straight America East Player of the Week honor and the third of her career after batting a team-best .438 at the Spartan Classic. Hall tallied an .875 slugging percentage after registering two home runs and a double on the weekend. The junior catcher drove in a team-best eight runs in the four games, including a 3-for-4 performance from the dish with four RBI in an 8-3 victory versus Monmouth.
Hall was also named the College Sports Madness America East Player of the Week.
Holte received her second straight America East Pitcher of the Week honor, as well as being named the America East Rookie of the Week. Holte became the first UMBC freshman to start her career with six victories in her first six decisions, after recording a pair of wins at the Spartan Classic. The rookie allowed just one walk in two complete games.
"Both of these young ladies had tremendous weekends and are off to great starts to the season," head coach Joe French said. "Taylor and Jessica have worked hard to help us to get off to a great start in the early going."
