The Retrievers hit the ball hard, but Albany came away with the 6-1 victory on Senior Day to take the series sweep.

    Softball Clinches America East Championships Appearance with Holte’s No-Hitter Versus Hartford A no-hitter from UMBC softball’s freshman pitcher Jessica Holte and a grand slam from junior catcher Taylor Hall helped the Retrievers to complete the series sweep of Hartford and clinch their first America East Championship appearance since 2011. The Retrievers defeated the Hawks, 10-0, in five innings in Monday’s series finale at Hartford Softball Field.

UMBC sophomore short stop Bridget O’Malley launched a three-run home run, her second blast of the day, in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Retrievers a 7-5 victory in game two, while junior catcher Taylor Hall (Cosby, Va./Cosby) tallied one of her four RBI on a solo home run that ended game one in six innings with a 10-2 black and gold victory.
