UMBC Runners Compete at NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals
Princess Anne, Md. – Nine UMBC runners competed in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Cross Country meet Saturday morning at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Senior Keri Wilson (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) paced the women's team while sophomore Brandan McGee (Hiram, Ohio/Crestwood) led the men.
Running in her final collegiate cross country meet, Wilson was the top Retriever finisher for the women for the sixth time this season, finishing the 6k course in 24:14.3, good for 91st place out of 191 runners.
Sophomore Cody Mezebish (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) and freshman Alyse Gibson (Columbia, Md./Reservoir) finished only a little over a minute after Wilson, finishing in 151st (25:19.6) and 156th (25:33.6) respectively.
Only three runners competed for the men's squad with McGee taking top honors for the Retrievers. In the first 10k meet for UMBC this year, McGee finished in 32:11.2 for 64th place. TJ Cowing (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and Nic Escobar (Derwood, Md./Magruder) also competed, completing the course in times of 32:42.7 and 32:59.8.
Princeton sophomore Donn Cabral won the men's meet finishing in a time of 30:30.3 while Villanova senior Sheila Reid (21:32.7) took first in the women's competition.
Georgetown won the overall men's competition with a total of 47 points while the Hoyas and Villanova tied for first (57 points) in the women's meet.
