A Quartet of Retrievers Earn Spots in the NCAA East Preliminaries

Indianapolis, In.—UMBC track and field athletes will continue their seasons at the NCAA East Preliminaries May 25-27. Three males and one female earned spots in four different events.

The lone Retriever female to earn a spot was Abigale Slonski (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) in the javelin. She finished third at the ECAC Championships with a toss of 43.40m (142'5") after taking second at the America East Championships with a toss of 41.41m (135'10"). Slonski broke the school record in the event at the Penn Relays with a throw of 45.15m (148'1"), earning silver at the meet.

Jamal Cody (Hereford, Md./Hereford), Alexios Prodanas (Kilkis, Greece) and Thomas Johnson (Purchase, N.Y./White Plains/Temple) earned spots on the men's side in the 400m hurdles, hammer throw and triple jump. All three have set school records in their respective events. Cody set the re-broke his own record at the America East Championships (52.48), while Prodanas broke his record at the Larry Ellis Invitational (65.04m, 213'4"). Most recently, Johnson set the school mark at the IC4A Championships last weekend (15.57m, 51'1").
