Baltimore, Md.—UMBC track and field continues their spring season at the George Mason Spring Invitational on Saturday. The Retrievers posted several top ten times, as the outdoor season got underway at the Colonial Relays last weekend.

Last Time Out (Colonial Relays):

UMBC track and field finished the Colonial Relays earning a handful of top ten finishes as the men finished seventh and the women 20th.

Lorenzo Neil earned a 26th place finish in the 3,000m run, clocking in with a time of 8:59.75. A quartet of Retrievers ran in the 10,000m run, led by Austin Hayslett. Hayslett finished 21st with a time of 31:35.45. Matt Kingeter (22nd, 31:36.22), Eric Smart (26th, 31:49.95), and Elijah Hawkins (34th, 32:24.42) rounded out the field.

The men where led by a trio of sprinters, led by James Oakley III in the 200m dash. Oakley earned silver with a time of 21.74. Brian Nelson and Erick Soetje earned a third and fourth place finish in the 100m dash and 400m dash respectively. Nelson finished in 10.91 while Soetje went 48.24.

Noel Njem took 20th in the 100m dash with a time of 11.27 while Nelson earned a 14th place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 22.46. Marcus Foster finished the 400m hurdles in 14th place, crossing the tape in 55.54.

In the field, Michael Parkent earned silver in the hammer throw university section with a toss of 45.34m (148'9").

On the women's side, Katelyn Callaghan earned an ECAC cut with a 12th place finish in the 10,000m run in a time of 36:43.81. Courtney Mattson (29th, 39:17.16) and Kelsey Ponton (32nd, 39:53.46) rounded out the field.

Abigale Slonski,had a third place finish in the javelin with a throw of 42.13m (138'3").

Amani Wallace was the top Retriever track finisher, finishing fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 25.09. Teammate Yinka Alabi placed 14th in the event with a time of 25.70. Erin Patrice earned a top ten finish in the 100m dash, taking eighth in a time of 12.37. Her sister Kara placed 22nd with a time of 12.61. Other top Retriever finishers included Madeleine Entwistle in the 100m hurdles (15th, 15.11) and Funmi Daramola in the 400m dash (16th, 58.55).

Up Next: 

UMBC track and field will head up I-695 for the Towson Invitational next Saturday, April 15. The meet begins at 10 a.m. with the field events.
