Men's Track and Field Finishes Fourth at 2011 America East Championships; Women Claim Seventh

BALTIMORE—The UMBC men's and women's track and field teams concluded action at the 2011 America East Outdoor Championships Sunday at UMBC Stadium, with the men finishing fourth with 97.5 points, while the women took seventh with 75 points.

 

Sophomores Amanda Deller (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) and Trae Proctor (Brandywine, Md./Thomas Stone) won gold in the women's shot put and men's 110-meter hurdles, respectively. Deller's throw hit a mark of 14.38m (47'2.25"), while Proctor finished in a time of 14.46.

 

The Retrievers went 1-2 in the 110m hurdles with senior Keith Brown (Columbia, Md./McDonough) finishing right behind Proctor in 14.70. Fellow senior Dominic Devaud (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) finished fifth in a time of 14.91 and earned silver in the decathlon with 6,664 points.

 

In addition to gold in the shot put, Deller took home silver in the discus throw with a mark of 41.63m (136'7"). In the men's throws, junior Aaron Brooks (Upper Marlboro, Md./DeMatha) earned bronze in both the discus throw and the shot put with marks of 48.59m (159'5") and 15.38m (50'5.5"), respectively.

 

Freshman Mo Drammeh (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) earned silver in the men's high jump, hitting a mark of 2.00m (6'6.75).

 

In the men's 800-meter run, senior Michael Christmas (Invercargill, New Zealand/James Hargest College) earned silver in an IC4A-qualifying time of 1:51.68. The men's 4x800-meter relay team of Christmas, junior Roy Jones (New Market, Md./Linganore) and freshmen Jake Albino (Hampton, N.Y./Minisink Valley) and Andrew Smith (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) earned bronze in an IC4A-qualifying time of 7:36.66.

 

Senior Britney Foreman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) took home bronze in the women's 100-meter dash in 12.18, while junior Imani Colbert (Upper Marlboro, Md./C.H. Flowers) also earned bronze in the 100-meter hurdles in an ECAC-qualifying time of 14.22.

 
 

Senior Sara Parkinson (Chorley, England/Loughborough University) broke the school record and finished third in the women's 1,500-meter run in 4:28.57.

 

The Retrievers return to action next weekend at the ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Championships in Princeton, N.J.
