Men's Tennis Runs Streak to Seven With 5-1 Triumph at Drexel

Philadelphia – The UMBC men's tennis team extended its winning streak to seven straight with a 5-1 victory at Drexel at the Legacy Tennis Center on Sunday evening. The two teams only competed in singles matches during the contest.

The Retrievers improved to 9-3, while the Dragons slipped to 6-5 on the campaign.
The three sophomores at the top of the Retriever lineup all came through with straight-set victories. At No. 1, Justin Carter (Randallstown, Md.) dropped only three games in a convincing 6-2, 6-1 victory over junior Badr Ouabdelmoumen, while No. 3 Alex Drean (Bayonne, France) dispatched of Skyler Davis, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 3 position.
Melker Svard (Gothenburg, Sweden) fought off more resistance, but defeated Xabier Saavedra, 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 2 position.
Freshman Biyik Akinshemoyin (Laurel, Md./Resevoir) also prevailed in straight sets, defeating Daniel Hansen, 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 6 slot and junior No. 5 Daniel Gray (Bowie, Md./The Bullis School) picked up the Retrievers' fifth point, outlasting Dan Koehler,  6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
Svard and Gray both improved to 8-2 in singles competition this season with their triumphs.  
The Retrievers will head west for their spring break to play a series of three matches against Seattle, Nevada and Sacramento State before returning home to face George Washington on March 23.
