Fairfax, Va.—The UMBC swimming and diving team finished the Patriot Invitational on Saturday, with the men finishing in third place, while the women finished seventh. The meet closed out the 2014 portion of the schedule.
Jonas Gutzat got things going for the men, placing fifth in the 1650 free with a time of 16:15.11. Gregor Sporlein followed that up with a fourth place finish in the 100 free. Gregor would touch the wall in 45:69. Leo Endres also earned a top five finish, placing third in the 200 breast in a time of 2:07.12. Nikola Trajkovic was just behind him in 2:07.22.
On the women's side, Stephanie Romano placed fifth in the 1650 free to kick off the finals runs. Romano touched the wall in a time of 17:37.96. Emily Escobedo continued her strong weekend, picking up her third individual victory in the 200 breast. Emily finished in the 2:15.20.
The women took home eight in the in the lone relay, the 400 free relay. Allie Caulfield, Courtney Hadden, Kristie Langford, and Catherine Frediani teamed up to finish in 3:34.21.
UMBC will head to Florida for their winter training trip in December, and will open 2015 with a meet at home against Howard. The meet with the Bison begins at 1:00 p.m. on January 10.
