    BALTIMORE – The UMBC men’s soccer program has added a pair of transfers to its incoming class for the fall of 2015, head coach Pete Caringi announced today. Local products Shawn Geary (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk/CCBC-Essex) and Bill Kerr (Bowie, Md./DeMatha/Lycoming) will both have two years of eligibility at UMBC when they matriculate this fall.

    Pete Caringi III, a 2013 All-American for the Retrievers, was named assistant men's soccer coach at UMBC. Caringi served as an undergraduate assistant coach under his father, Pete, Jr., for the 2014 campaign while completing his degree requirements in psychology.
  • Men's Soccer Faces Villanova in Third Annual "Kicks for Chase" Game on April 17

    The UMBC men’s soccer program will host Villanova in a very special soccer match at Retriever Soccer Park on Friday, April 17 at 7:00 p.m. for the Third Annual “Kicks for Chase” game. The game features the Retrievers, who rewrote the UMBC history books when they earned a spot in the NCAA College Cup last fall, against the Big East power Villanova Wildcats. This one of a kind off-season event is quickly becoming a must-attend tradition in Maryland, and is a fundraiser for The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region (The Arc NCR).

    BALTIMORE – The UMBC men’s soccer program, fresh off an NCAA College Cup appearance, has announced the signing of six student-athletes to national-letters-of-intent for the fall semester of 2015. The newest Retrievers will be midfielder Patrick Jean-Gilles (Lorton, Va./South County), defender Tyler Ward (Buford, Ga./Mill Creek), defender Riley Collins (Parkville, Md./Loyola Blakefield), midfielder James Gielien (Edgewater, Md./DeMatha Catholic), midfielder/forward David Harris (Laurel, Md./Reservoir), and defender Kyle Saunderson (Laurel, Md./Reservoir).
  • Men's Soccer Walk-On Tryouts Set for Feb. 27th

    BALTIMORE – Walk-on tryouts for the UMBC men's soccer team will take place on Friday, Feb. 27th at the UMBC Stadium Turf Field.   • Ballo, Banjo Selected in MLS SuperDraft Second Round

    Philadelphia, Pa. – A pair of UMBC seniors, defender Oumar Ballo and forward Kay Banjo were selected in the second round of the MLS SuperDraft held in Philadelphia. Ballo was selected by the Houston Dynamo with the ninth pick in the round, the 30th selection overall and the top MLS draft selection for a UMBC student-athlete. Eight slots later, Banjo was taken off the board by the Vancouver Whitecaps.

    BALTIMORE – UMBC senior back Marquez Fernandez (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) was selected to the 2014 NSCAA Second Team Scholar All-American squad for his dual accomplishments on the field and in the classroom. UMBC was also well-represented as the ECAC released its men’s soccer awards on Dec. 16. Senior back Oumar Ballo earned ECAC Defensive Player of the Year honors, while head coach Pete Caringi was tabbed as the ECAC Coach of the Year.
  • Pete Caringi Named National Coach of the Year by NSCAA

    KANSAS CITY – UMBC Head Men’s Soccer Coach Pete Caringi was named 2014 National Division I Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The award is voted upon by Caringi’s fellow coaches who are members of the NSCAA. It is the Retriever mentor’s third top honor in 30 years, as he was selected as the National Junior College Coach of the Year in 1984 and 1989. At the senior college level, Caringi earned South Atlantic regional honors in 1999 and Northeast regional honors in 2013.
  • Ballo Becomes First Retriever to Earn Pair of NSCAA All-American Citations; Back Also Tabbed to All-Tourney Team

    KANSAS CITY – UMBC senior back Oumar Ballo (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) was named to the NSCAA All America Third Team, it was announced on Friday, Dec. 12. Ballo, who earned NSCAA Second Team honors last season, becomes the first student-athlete in school history to earn a pair of NSCAA All America citations.

    BALTIMORE---UMBC red-shirt sophomore goalkeeper Billy Heavner (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) is the recipient of the Elite 89 award for the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship. Heavner, majoring in financial economics, currently carries a 4.00 GPA. He was presented with the award during the College Cup Men’s Soccer Team Tribute on Thursday evening in Cary, N.C.

  • Men's Soccer Travels to No. 13 Louisville for Sunday Regional Semifinals

    The UMBC men’s soccer squad (13-5-4) became the university’s first intercollegiate athletic program to advance two rounds in NCAA Division I postseason competition by virtue of a 1-0 second round victory over fourth-ranked and host Maryland on Nov. 23 in the 2014 NCAA Men’s Soccer Championships. The Retrievers will now face their second Atlantic Coast Conference foe in the tournament when they travel to Kentucky to take on the Louisville Cardinals on Sunday, Nov. 30.     College Park, Md. – UMBC junior midfielder Malcolm Harris (Damascus, Md./McDonogh) scored in the 70th minute and the Retrievers advanced to the third round of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship with a 1-0 victory over the No. 4 seeded Maryland Terrapins before a spirited crowd of 3,776 at Ludwig Field. It is the first time a UMBC Division I team has advanced this far in a national tournament. UMBC will face No. 13 Louisville, a 2-1 winner over Saint Louis in Kentucky on Sunday, Nov. 30. The game time will be announced early this week.
