Men's Soccer Wraps Up Preseason With 1-0 Win over American

BALTIMORE- Junior Geaton Caltabiano (Lothian, Md./Mount St. Joseph) scored four minutes into the contest and the UMBC defense made the goal stand up as the Retrievers blanked American, 1-0, in their final preseason tune-up on August 23 at Retriever Soccer Park.

The game was a match-up of two teams predicted to capture their conference titles this year, with the Retrievers  a unanimous coaches' choice in the America East Conference and the Eagles the selection by coaches and sports information directors in the Patriot League.

Caltabiano, who scored a pair of goals in the 3-2 preseason opening victory over James Madison, scored on the first shot of the game. Junior Jordan Becker (Pocomoke City, Md./Pocomoke) served a ball in from the left side towards the near post and Caltabiano headed it just underneath the crossbar from nine yards away.

UMBC opens the regular season by welcoming Seattle University to Retriever Soccer Park on Fri., Aug. 30 at 7:00 p.m.
