Men's Soccer Heads to Philadelphia For Match-Up With La Salle on Tuesday Evening
The UMBC Retrievers (3-2-2) have their final tune-up before the America East opener when they visit La Salle (1-6-1) in Philadelphia, Pa. on Tuesday, Sept. 27. AS OF LATE: UMBC snapped a three-game winless streak with a 3-1 win at Longwood on Saturday evening. The Retrievers rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit, scoring twice in 46 seconds and adding another score three minutes later midway through second half to post the road victory. La Salle dropped a 5-0 decision to Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, on Saturday and drawing, 0-0 in double overtime at home vs. Lehigh on Sept. 20.
The Retrievers are currently ranked tenth in the Northeast Region, tied for that spot with America East rival Vermont.
A GLANCE AT THE EXPLORERS: La Salle started the year at 0-5-0 before a 1-0 victory at Army and a 0-0 double overtime draw vs. Lehigh. Sophomore midfielder Jason Plumhoff(River Hill HS), who scored the game-winning goal vs. Army, is the lone multiple goal-scorer for the Explorers with a pair of tallies. Sophomore goalkeeper John McCarthy (1-4-1) recorded the two-save shutout in the game.
INSIDE THE SERIES: The Retrievers improved to 6-1-0 vs. La Salle with a stirring 2-1 overtime victory in 2010. Caringi scored the game-tying goal with 5:01 to play in regulation and Levi Houapeu got he game-winner in the final minute of the first extra period. UMBC is 2-0-0 at La Salle, with a 1-0 win in 1999 and a 3-0 victory two seasons ago. Bulls scored twice in that game and tallied the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory in his freshman season of 2008.
