It was the Retrievers' first shutout since a Sept. 3 1-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson. The Terriers have won three in a row, capped by a 1-0 win over No. 22 Providence on the same night.
A GLANCE AT THE TERRIERS: Senior Stephen Knox scored in the 88th minute and reigning America East Rookie of the Week Nick Thomson stopped one shot to give the Boston University men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over No. 22 Providence on a rainy Tuesday night at Nickerson Field. With their third straight win, the Terriers (5-5-0) earn their first victory over a ranked squad since beating then-No. 20 Harvard in 2010. Knox leads the Terriers with three goals on the campaign. Boston opened America East play with a 1-0 win at Hartford on Saturday.
INSIDE THE SERIES: The Terriers hold a 4-3-1 advantage in the all-time series and are 3-1-1 vs. UMBC in the last five meetings. The two teams have split four meetings at Nickerson Field- UMBC won the most recent battle in Boston, 2-1, in 2009. The Terriers avenged that defeat with a 2-0 victory in 2010 at UMBC Stadium.
