For the second time in four years, UMBC’s Retriever Soccer Park became a training ground for one of the world’s top professional soccer teams. Tottenham Hotspur, which competes in the English Premier League, trained and participated in a youth clinic on the UMBC campus on Thursday, July 26.
Kansas City, Kan.- Senior midfielder Andrew Bulls (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) and sophomore fullback Daniel Welsh (Fife, Scotland/Stewart’s Melville College) were named to the 2011 Performance Subaru National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division I Men’s Soccer All-Northeast Region Third Team.
BALTIMORE- The UMBC men’s soccer team was unable to defend its America East title, as the fourth-seeded Retrievers fell, 1-0, to visiting No. 5 Hartford in an America East quarterfinal match played in chilly conditions at Retriever Soccer Park.
Cambridge, Mass.- UMBC senior goalkeeper Dan Louisignau (Wilmington, Del./Concord) has been named America East Conference Goalkeeper of the Year, as the league announced today its top awards and All-Conference teams. All awards were voted on by the league’s head coaches.
Burlington, Vt.- A shaken UMBC men’s soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision in the regular season finale at Vermont, but received good news after the game as senior midfielder Andy Streilein (Rockville, Md.) was released from a Vermont hospital and will subsequently travel home with the team.
BALTIMORE- UMBC lost its grip on first-place in the America East Conference as visiting Stony Brook took advantage of early defensive miscues and defeated the Retrievers, 3-0, at Retriever Soccer Park.
West Hartford, Conn.- UMBC had not lost an America East Conference game since Oct. 15, 2010, but the host Hartford Hawks snapped that streak with a 3-1 victory in a card-filled league contest at Al-Marzook Field.
UMBC men’s soccer team (7-4-3, 4-0-0 America East) gets back into conference action as they travel to Hartford to take on a rested and determined Hawk side at Al-Marzook Field on Saturday, Oct. 22. Kick-off time is set for 7:00 p.m.
Baltimore- Penn State freshman forward Hasani Sinclair scored in the 71st minute and the visiting Nittany Lions halted UMBC’s five-game unbeaten streak with a 1-0 victory on rain-soaked turf of UMBC Stadium.
Baltimore- UMBC scored a pair of second half goals, including the 31st of senior Andrew Bulls’ (Millersville, Md./McDonogh) career as the host Retrievers defeated New Hampshire, 2-0, in an America East Conference match played before 2,463 fans and a Fox Soccer national television audience at Retriever Soccer Park.
Vestal, N.Y.- Sophomore forward Pete Caringi III (Perry Hall, Md./Calvert Hall) scored on a penalty kick in the 41st minute and visiting UMBC held off a desperate Binghamton side to prevail, 1-0, in an America East match at the Bearcats’ Sports Complex.
