Cambridge, Mass.—UMBC senior forward Levi Houapeu (Germantown, Md./Watkins Mill) has been named America East Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week for games ending Oct. 31, 2010.
Houapeu scored three goals in UMBC's playoff-clinching 3-1 victory over Vermont on Oct. 27.His three-goal effort vs. the Catamounts was the third of his career (Drexel, 9/19/09, Albany, 10/24/09) and UMBC's first hat trick of the 2010 campaign.
The 2009 America East Midfielder of the Year now has 12 goals in 16 games this season and just became the seventh player in school history to amass at least 30 (31) career goals. He has 80 career points (31-18-80) and has moved into a tie for fifth place on UMBC's all-time scoring list.
No player in the nation has more points in the past two seasons (70) than Houapeu. He leads the America East Conference in goals and points per game.
UMBC (10-4-2, 4-1-2) clinched second place in America East and a first-round bye in the conference tournament. The Retrievers will host the winner of No. 6 Vermont at No. 3 Stony Brook on Wednesday, Nov. 10.
