CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—UMBC senior forward Levi Houapeu (Germantown, Md./Watkins Mill) is among nine players nominated for the 2010 America East Men's Soccer Fans' Choice Player of the Year.
Houapeu is having another stellar season for the Retrievers. He leads the team and the America East Conference with nine goals and 21 points. Earlier in the season, he became the 11th player in school history to amass 25 career goals. The 2009 America East Midfielder of the Year has 74 career points (28-18-74) and has moved into eighth place on UMBC's all-time scoring list. The nation's leading scorer in 2009 was ranked in several NCAA statistical categories entering play this week, including points per game (23rd, 1.5), total points (20th), goals per game (0.64, 17th) and total goals (17th).
The two-goal effort by Houapeu at Albany on Oct. 13 was the fifth multi-goal game of his career and first since scoring twice at Towson on Sept. 8. He leads America East in goals/goals per game and points/points per game
Voting will continue through Monday, November 1 with the winner being announced Tuesday, November 2 via a release on AmericaEast.com.
