BOSTON – UMBC freshman attackman Ryan Frawley (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) earned America East Conference Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending March 12.
Frawley scored a team season-best four goals in UMBC's 6-4 win at Marist (4-2) on March 11. He tallied all three Retriever second half goals, including a pair in the third quarter as UMBC increased a 3-2 lead to 5-2 and a critical score in the fourth quarter after Marist has closed the gap to 5-4.
The Retriever newcomer potted a pair of extra-man goals against Marist defense which had only allowed one man-down goal in 18 opponent opportunities entering the game.
Frawley is now tied for team lead with eight goals, half of which have occurred on man-up situations.
He is UMBC's second AE Rookie of the Week, joining face-off specialist Jake Brothers (Elkridge, Md./Mount St. Joseph), who earned the award on February 13.
UMBC opens America East play next Saturday, March 18, when they travel to Stony Brook. The Seawolves are currently 4-1 and ranked No. 14 in the USILA/Nike poll. The opening face-off takes place at 1:00 p.m. at La Valle Stadium.
