Men's Lacrosse Hosts Hartford in Critical AE Contest on Saturday Afternoon

UMBC and Hartford meet in a critical America East Conference match-up at UMBC Stadium on Saturday, April 12. The opening face-off is set for 3:30 p.m. Both squads are coming off setbacks in the five-game America East schedule and will be battling to maintain contact with the top of the league. RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC held a 6-4 halftime lead, but the host Binghamton Bearcats outscored the Retrievers, 9-1, in the second half and earned a 13-7 America East Conference victory at the Bearcats Sports Complex on April 6. UMBC had its two-game winning streak snapped and fell to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in league play, FR A Max Maxwell led UMBC with a goal and two assists, while SO M Pat Young and SR A Matt Gregoire each scored a pair of goals. Gregoire, who leads the team with 31 goals and 34 points, has scored all of his season's goals in the last eight games. Red-shirt FR G Connor Gordon is ranked sixth in the nation with 12.20 saves per game. The AE Rookie of the Week on March 31 owns a save percentage of 55.2 percent, which is 17th-best in the country.
HAWK UPDATE: SR Conner Yatauro and RS JR Adam Yee each netted hat tricks on Sunday afternoon, but Hartford came up short against No. 16 UAlbany, dropping a 15-11 decision at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium. Hartford won the ground ball battle, 38-33, and forced 18 UAlbany turnovers, but dropped its fourth straight contest. The Hawks then defeated visting Dartmouth, 12-7, on April 8. FR A Jaedon Henderson scored five goals and SR G Frank Piechota made a career-high 18 saves. JR A Kevin O'Shea has recorded 27 goals and 39 points through the team's first 12 games. Shea averages 11.1 shots per game. Yee has won 150 of 269 draws attempted, a 55.8 percent success mark.
LAST YEAR'S RESULT/ALL-TIME SERIES: UMBC leads the series, 7-5, and snapped a four-game slide to the Hawks with a 16-12 victory at UMBC Stadium in 2012. The teams met twice in 2013, with Hartford triumphing, 15-14, in overtime at Al-Marzook Field in the regular season, but UMBC rallying for a 15-13 victory in the America East semifinals at Stony Brook. The Retrievers are 4-1 versus the Hawks at UMBC Stadium.
WHO'S UP NEXT: UMBC completes the home schedule and honors its seniors next Saturday, April 19 with a 3:30 p.m. contest versus defending America East champion Albany.
