SET THE SCENE: UMBC opens its 2014 home schedule on Saturday, Feb. 22, when they welcome the Monmouth Hawks to UMBC Stadium. The Retrievers are looking to rebound from an opening day setback at Maryland, while MU competes in its first-ever Division I contest on Saturday. HAWK UPDATE: In its first year of competition, Monmouth University was selected seventh in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Preseason Poll in 2014, according to the league's head coaches. Under head coach Brian Fisher, the Hawks are in their first season of men's lacrosse. Fisher announced that juniors Ryan Horsch and Zach Johannes have been named team captains. Horsch, a transfer from Brookdale Community College, where he helped lead the Jersey Blues to consecutive Region 19 Championships, was honored as a two-time First-Team All-Region 19 defenseman. Johannes, a transfer from Franklin & Marshall, appeared in every game in his two seasons with the Diplomats, and was named the Freshman of the Year in 2012.
