BALTIMORE – New York Times best-selling author John Feinstein will join former national collegiate coaches of the year Gary Williams and Dave Odom on the stage at the UMBC men's basketball program's Second Annual Tip-Off Event.
The tip-off returns to the Bond Street Wharf in Baltimore's scenic Fells' Point on Friday, Oct. 13 as the action gets underway at 6:00 p.m.
Feinstein served as the featured speaker in the inaugural event a year ago and lent his expertise as part of the Retrievers' broadcast team in the America East's initial foray into ESPN3 broadcasts in 2016-17.
Feinstein is the author of 36 books, including the two best-selling sports books of all-time –A Season on the Brink and A Good Walk Spoiled, both New York Times best-sellers. In addition to his books, Feinstein also works for The Washington Post, The Golf Channel, Golf Digest, Sirius XM, CBS Sports Radio and Comcast Sportsnet.
The Duke University graduate and Potomac, Md. resident has been inducted into four Halls of Fame, including the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and The U.S. Basketball Writers' Hall of Fame.
Patrons can meet the 2017-18 Retriever team, Head Coach Ryan Odom, the coaching and administrative staffs and Director of Athletics Tim Hall, while enjoying hors d'oeuvres and beverages from 6:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m.
Dinner and the program will begin at 7:00 p.m. and features ACC coaching legends Williams and Odom and Feinstein, who covered the league in the glory days. The trio will share some wisdom, weave a few stories and take some questions from #RetrieverNation before the final buzzer at 9:00 p.m.
Guests will re-live some of the great moments of the record-setting 2016-17 campaign and see the premier of the 2017-18 Retriever men's basketball video preview. The Retrievers return four starters and nine letterwinners back from that squad which advanced to the semi-finals of the College Insider Tournament. Five newcomers will join that group, comprising Ryan Odom's second Retriever squad.
