  • Lyles' Two Free Throws With 12.7 Second Left Propels UMBC to 89-88 Thrilling Win Over Nicholls

    BALTIMORE – UMBC graduate student guard Jairus Lyles (Silver Spring, Md./DeMatha) hit a pair of free throws with 12.7 seconds remaining to propel the Retrievers an 89-88 thrilling victory over Nicholls in the final game of the Battle 4 Atlantis Mainland Tournament, held at the RAC Arena.  
  • Sherburne, Lamar Lead Men’s Basketball to Thanksgiving Day Triumph

    Baltimore, MD – Junior Joe Sherburne (Whitefish Bay, Wisc./Whitefish Bay) and sophomore Arkel Lamar (Bridgeport, Conn./St. Thomas More) led the UMBC men’s basketball team to victory over Chicago State, 84-73, at the RAC on Thanksgiving Day in the Battle 4 Atlantis Mainland Tournament.

Tip-off time is slated for 12:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3, with Gary Stein, John Feinstein and Paul Mittermeier on the call.

    BALTIMORE – UMBC sophomore forward Max Curran (Hooksett, N.H.) set career marks with 21 points and 10 rebounds, leading the host Retrievers (1-2) to a 93-62 victory over Central Penn College (3-1) in the home opener at the RAC Arena.

  • Lyles Nets 31; UMBC Gives Battle, But Falls to No. 3 Arizona, 103-78

    Tuscon, Ariz. – UMBC graduate student guard Jairus Lyles (Silver Spring, Md./DeMatha) led all scorers with 31 points, but third-ranked Arizona overcame a spirited Retriever effort and triumphed, 103-78, before 13,496 at McKale Arena.  
  • Men's Basketball Continues West; Faces No. 3 Arizona on Sunday

    The UMBC men’s basketball team (0-1) plays its second consecutive game against a 2017 NCAA Tournament squad when the Retrievers travel from Dallas, Texas to Tucson, Arizona to face the third-ranked Arizona Wildcats (1-0) on Sunday, Nov. 12. Tip-off at the Mc Kale Center is set for 6:00 p.m. and the game will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
  • SMU Rallies Late to Defeat Upset-Minded UMBC, 78-67
    November 10, 2017
    Dallas, Texas – UMBC led host SMU for nearly 23 minutes and deep into the second half, but the 2017 American Conference champions prevailed, 78-67, before 6,841 at Moody Coliseum. Sophomore forward Arkel Lamar (Bridgeport, Conn.) posted career highs in scoring (23), rebounding (12) and recorded his first career double-double. Graduate student guard Jairus Lyles (Silver Spring, Md./DeMatha) led the Retrievers with 24 points.

  • UMBC Picked Third in America East Preseason Poll; Lyles Repeats as All-Conference Team Selection

    BOSTON – UMBC was picked to finish third in the 2017-18 America East Conference preseason coaches’ poll, the league announced today. It is the highest preseason selection for the Retrievers in 15 conference campaigns. In addition, graduate student guard Jairus Lyles (Silver Spring, Md./DeMatha) was tabbed to the Preseason All-Conference team for the second consecutive year, a first for any UMBC men’s basketball player in the program’s America East era.
  • Men's Basketball to Host Black-and-Gold Scrimmage on Homecoming Weekend

    As part of UMBC’s Homecoming Festivities and to cap off a big weekend for Retriever basketball, the men’s basketball program will host a black-and-gold scrimmage on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 14. The action will tip off at the RAC Arena at 3:30 p.m. and is open to the public.

    BALTIMORE – New York Times best-selling author John Feinstein will join former national collegiate coaches of the year Gary Williams and Dave Odom on the stage at the UMBC men’s basketball program’s Second Annual Tip-Off Event. The tip-off returns to the Bond Street Wharf in Baltimore’s scenic Fells’ Point on Friday, Oct. 13 as the action gets underway at 6:00 p.m.
  • Will Darley Signs With Hamburg Towers in Germany's ProA League

    Former UMBC men’s basketball standout Will Darley (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) signed with the Hamburg Towers in Germany’s ProA League last week and will begin his professional career when the Towers start their campaign in late September.
