Men's Basketball Opens Eleventh America East at League Newcomer UMass Lowell on Sunday Afternoon

UMBC (4-9) opens its 11th season of America East play on the road as the Retrievers take on league newcomer UMass Lowell at the Costello Athletic Center on Sunday, Jan. 5. Tip-off time is set for 1:00 p.m. The Riverhawks (1-11, 0-1) made their league debut on Dec. 18 when they fell to visiting Vermont, 62-48. There is no local radio for this game, but live streaming is available on the America East digital network at www.americaeast.tv.

RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC snapped a four-game slide andimproved to 4-1 at home on the campaign with a 63-48 victory over Navy on Dec. 30. The Retrievers hit 6-of-11 shots behind the arc in the second half and outscored the Mids, 43-27, over the final 20 minutes to secure the victory. Freshman guards Rodney Elliott (21 pts.) and Bryan Harris (14 pts.) scored 27 of the team's second half points. The 48 points allowed was a fewest by a UMBC team since giving up 40 points at Boston University in February of 2008.
RIVERHAWK UPDATE: UMass Lowell has been away from competition since a 95-77 loss at home to Duquesne on Dec.21. The Dukes shot 62.3 percent from the field and buried 13 treys in that contest. Five UML players hit double figures, led by SO G D.J. Mlachnik, who score 14 points. SR G Akeem Williams, a Northeast-10 First Team selection last season, leads the squad with 13.9 points per game, followed by JR G Chad Holley (12.4 ppg) and Mlachnik (10.2 ppg).
  
WHO'S UP NEXT: UMBC heads right back out on the road on Tuesday, headed to Albany for a Wednesday evening match-up with the Great Danes.
