Men's Basketball Returns to Action at GW on Saturday Afternoon

UMBC (3-8) returns to the court after completing the final examination period on Sat., Dec. 21 when they take the short trip down I-295 to face a red-hot George Washington (9-1) squad. Tip-off time is set for 2:30 p.m. and Paul Mittermeier brings fans all the action on Q1370 radio or www.q1370.com. Links are also available for live stats and live streaming of the contest.

RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC will complete its four-game road swing (over 2.5 weeks) still searching for its first victory away from home. After five halves of outstanding shooting, the Retrievers cooled off dramatically in a 91-71 setback at Coppin State on Dec. 11. Freshman guard Rodney Elliott led UMBC with 16 points and earned his second America East Rookie of the Week honor on Dec. 16. Elliott leads UMBC with 14.1 points per game. SR G Quentin Jones is averaging 10.0 ppg and shooting 66.7% from the floor in his last four outings. 

COLONIAL UPDATE: In its latest outing on Dec. 11, the Colonials rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat Boston University, 70-60, at the Charles E. Smith Center.GW, winner of five straight, is now 9-1 - its best start since 2005-06 and tied for the eighth-best start in its 100 seasons of intercollegiate basketball. The victory moved the Colonials to 5-0 at home this season and was the sixth straight win at Smith Center.  Graduate student Maurice Creek leads a potent offense with 15.7 points per game and is 26-of-56 (46.4%) from behind the arc. 

WHO'S UP NEXT: UMBC returns from holiday break to host Navy in the back end of a home-and-home series vs. the Midshipmen. The game is set for Mon., Dec. 30 with a 7:00 p.m. tip at the RAC Arena.
