Men's Basketball Will Attempt to Break Through at Coppin State on Wednesday Evening

UMBC (3-7) will be its seventh attempt to garner its first road win of the season when the Retrievers travel to Coppin State (3-4) on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Tip-off time is set for 7:30 p.m. and Gary Stein and Paul Mittermeier bring fans all the action on Q1370 radio or www.q1370.com.

RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC played three games in six days last week and all three were decided by six points or less. The Retrievers edged UMES, 64-59, at home on Dec. 2, but fell at Duquesne (94-88) two days later and at Lehigh (70-68) on Dec. 7. SR F Chase Plummer has scored 48 points in his last two outings, while FR G Rodney Elliott has scored in double figures in the last three games. Both players are averaging 13.9 points per outing.

EAGLE UPDATE: Coppin State opened MEAC play with a convincing 73-54 victory at Delaware State on Dec. 7. Senior forwarrd Michael Murray was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week Monday morning. He scored a career-high 28 points, hitting 11-of-15 shots from the floor. Murray was selected to the MEAC preseason All-Conference First Team after leading the MEAC in rebounds per game last season (8.9) while averaging 12.4 points per game. Sophomore guard Sterling Smith leads the squad at 14.6 points per game and has converted 17-of-36 shots (47.2%) from behind the arc.

Who's Up Next: UMBC begins the exam period tomorrow and will not be in action again until Sat., Dec. 21, when they make the short trip to Washington, D.C., to face a red-hot George Washington (8-1) squad.
