Rodney Elliott Named America East Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Cambridge, Mass.- UMBC freshman guard Rodney Elliott (Baltimore, Md./John Carroll) has been named America East Conference Rookie of the Week for games ending Nov. 17, 2013.
Elliott scored 24 of his 26 points after halftime, as the Retrievers wiped out a school-record 23-point deficit and rallied to defeat visiting Mount St. Mary's, 90-84, in overtime at the RAC Arena on Sunday. The first-year standout hit 8-of-14 shots from the floor, 3-iof-6 from behind the arc and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. He added five assists, six rebounds and a pair of steals.
Elliott also tallied 19 points to open the week in a victory over Eastern University. He is leading the Retrievers in scoring through four games at 16.3 ppg and in assists at 4.3 per game..
The freshman has started all four games for the Retrievers and has scored in double figures in three of four games to date. He is UMBC's first Rookie-of-the-Week since Brian Neller earned the honor in December of 2009.
